Crews were called out to tackle a wildfire near the old Woodhead Railway Station, close to Woodhead Reservoir. The fire broke out at around 10:00 PM on Friday 4 April 2025, with flames and smoke visible from the Woodhead Pass.
In attendance:
• Glossop Fire Station – 1 Ford Ranger 4×4 and 1 fire appliance
• West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service – 1 fire appliance
• South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service – Penistone, Barnsley, and Stocksbridge (1 fire appliance from each)
• Station Managers from Derbyshire and South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Services
Crews worked through the night, using beaters and tools to bring the fire under control. Despite the challenging conditions – steep terrain, dry vegetation, and gusty winds – the team made great progress, stopping the fire from spreading further.
